I’m woken by the room maid banging on the door to try and clean the room. I’m not sure what the time is and ask her to leave the cleaning for today. Promptly back to sleep and wake again at just after 12:30. The room has a kettle and two mugs but no water, tea or coffee. Brilliant!!
Eventually get downstairs and ask the hotel staff to help me get 3G on my phone. No credit at all, there never has been!! They eventually put credit on and sort 3G for me. I connect to the Wi-Fi and find I still can’t get my emails on the phone. I managed to get my emails last night by using a VPN on the iPad but the VPN is now blocked. I have notifications of messages in Line but they won’t download.
Andy, I received your message in Quiz Clash and tried to respond but it won’t send. Anyone who has sent me messages in Line, as soon as I can get the messages I will reply.
Managed to book a tour to the Great Wall at the hotel reception and was walked up the street and shown where to wait for the pick up at 06:20 tomorrow morning. Thought I would go to Tiananmen Square this afternoon but gave the idea the thumbs down as a thunder storm was in full progress, two hours later it still hasn’t rained but there’s still thunder and lightning.
This is when I discover the average price for a large bottle of beer is 10 Yuan in the hotel and can be bought cheaper in the local bars!! A burger and chips in the hotel is 15 Yuan but only available after 16:00!!! The bar doesn’t open until 18:00, there’s no smoking in the hotel but it hasn’t stopped the Chinese men sitting behind me from smoking. I got a cigarette out of my packet and was immediately directed to go outside!! WTF!!
Now sat in the hotel restaurant updating the blog for the past 3 days and still tired!! It will be an early night and an early start tomorrow. I will visit Tienanmen Square and the Forbidden Palace on Wednesday and hope the weather is good.
